Brisco Harward, Ph.D., MBA

Brisco L. Harward, PhD MBA, Vice President Applied Technology, Cinteger LLC provides technical and scientific consulting services based upon over twenty years in the pharmaceutical industry. Brisco’s pharma experiences in leading functions in R&D support, Technical Services, and the manufacture and packaging of Clinical Supplies has prepared him well for providing expertise in solving technical challenges and processing issues for clients.

As Director, Brisco led the US Applied Technology group within Glaxo, GlaxoWellcome, and GlaxoSmithKline.  This company-wide “scientific engineering” resource developed proof-of-concept prototypes which facilitated the evaluation, development, and implementation of new technologies to support both R&D and Operations.  While addressing the need of internal clients at multiple sites, this team of engineering, scientists, and prototype designers successfully completed 200+ projects annually.  These innovative solutions allowed for novel scientific approaches to R&D to be pursued, the removal of bottlenecks in laboratory or manufacturing processes, the automation of critical labor-intensive activities, and the design of enhancements to existing equipment and instrumentation to provide new or improved functionality.

As Senior Manager of Technical Services within Cardinal Health’s PTS Division, Brisco was responsible for solving process and product challenges for clients in the GMP contract manufacturing environment.  This included technical transfer from R&D to Operations and across manufacturing sites.  Also included was the evaluation of potential process changes and the associated cost/benefit analysis. This team was also responsible for technical investigations into process variances, with root cause analysis and associated CAPA implementation.

As Director of Clinical Supplies, Brisco was responsible for the manufacture of both developmental and GMP lots for both clients and internal projects. This product supported clinical evaluation and formal stability testing according to ICH guidelines. In addition to manufacture, this team was responsible for both bottle and blister packaging of product according to targeted specifications. Other activities included process development, scale-up, and technical transfer to Operations. In addition, Brisco was directly involved in the authoring of Batch Production Record (BPR), SOP’s, and process investigation documentation, as well as equipment selection, justification, and qualification.

After receiving his BA in Chemistry from Pfeiffer University, Brisco earned his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  His dissertation included research performed under a fellowship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Brisco also received his MBA from Pfeiffer University, and is a member of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
